Roger’s Writers

Pope Francis asks us “to make room in our hearts for those who have sinned, those who have made mistakes and are in jail.” 

St. Scholastica partners with Companions Journeying Together Inc., www.cjtinc.org, to be one, among many, of their penpal to prisoner groups. Deacon Roger Schmith gathered us to form this group in 2015. We write and participate in his honor. (We use a post office box as our return address to protect our privacy.)

Year-round, we accept donations of blank note cards, stationery, and birthday cards. We also ask for new Christmas cards. We send thousands of Christmas cards into dozens of prison and jail facilities at Christmas time.

Being present to a person in prison can make a big difference. One prisoner expressed it this way, “When you have someone writing to you regularly it really does affect a person’s whole attitude and outlook.”
